AI Chat Tools for Interior Design and Space Planning
Vendor pages document different upload limits, image inputs, and prices, while none establishes interior-design or space-planning accuracy.
Sources checked 2 Oct 2026
For AI chat tools for interior design and space planning, vendor pages settle what each assistant accepts, which plans include which features, and what limits apply; they do not establish design accuracy. The documented differences include file and image handling, plan prices, and data controls. Chat Picker has not tested ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini for this use.
What the vendors document
The plan and limit figures below are as read on the linked vendor pages in October 2026.
-
ChatGPT. OpenAI’s ChatGPT pricing page lists a free plan and Plus at $20 per month, billed monthly. OpenAI’s File Uploads FAQ says Free users have three uploads per day, each uploaded file has a 512MB hard limit, images are limited to 20MB, and CSV or spreadsheet files are capped at approximately 50MB, depending on row size. The pricing page says an opt-out from training on chats is available on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro.
-
Claude. Anthropic’s pricing page lists Free and Pro at $20 per month, or $17 per month with annual billing and $200 up front. Anthropic’s upload guide gives a 500MB limit for chat files and 30MB for project files. It says PDFs of 100 pages or fewer receive text and visual analysis, while those from 101 to 1,000 pages receive text-only processing. Claude’s vision documentation says Claude.ai accepts up to 20 images per message and can analyze multiple images jointly. The pricing page says Free, Pro, and Max offer a training opt-out, while Team is not trained on by default.
-
Gemini. Google’s US AI plans page lists a free plan with a Google Account, Google AI Plus at $4.99 per month, and Google AI Pro at $19.99 per month. Google’s file-upload guide says Gemini Apps accepts most file types, with up to 10 supported files in one prompt; each non-video file can be 100MB and each video can be 2GB. Google’s Gemini sources help explains that related links can point to public websites, uploaded files, or connected Workspace documents and email. The plans page does not state a training opt-out setting, so Chat Picker marks that item “Not verified.”
Accuracy is a separate question. OpenAI’s accuracy note says ChatGPT may be incorrect or misleading and can sound confident while wrong, so users should verify important information. Anthropic’s accuracy note says Claude can also mislead, warns against treating it as the only source of truth, and recommends checking cited sources for missing context. Google’s safety and policy guidelines say context matters when evaluating harmful inaccuracies. None certifies dimensions, circulation, lighting, or costs.
OpenAI’s usage policies say its rules do not replace legal requirements, professional duties, or ethical obligations. Anthropic’s Usage Policy says qualified professionals must review covered advice or recommendations that directly affect individuals before release, and requires AI disclosure when model outputs are presented directly to consumers.
What the documentation cannot tell you
Vendor documentation describes inputs, features, and guardrails, not project-specific performance. It cannot establish whether furniture fits actual clearances, a circulation path reaches every required area, a style description matches its reference, or a cost line matches current local supply.
Source links help only when you inspect the original pages. They do not verify every inference in a synthesized answer. Check drawings, site measurements, manufacturer specifications, current quotes, and project requirements separately.
The previous version’s unsourced statistics and test results have been removed.
How to check it yourself
Use the same plans, files, constraints, and scoring rules across assistants. Keep each original response before asking follow-up questions.
-
Dimensional logic and circulation. Upload a floor plan and ask: “Analyze this floor plan. Preserve every labeled dimension, door, window, and structural wall. Propose furniture zones and circulation paths, then list assumptions you cannot verify.” Check scale, orientation, door paths, and dimensional consistency. Record each contradiction, omission, invented measurement, and unresolved assumption.
-
Style coherence and reference accuracy. Upload style references and ask: “Compare the attached references. Describe visible layout, material, color, and lighting cues, and separate direct observations from design inferences.” Check whether descriptions match the images and whether terminology stays consistent. Record unsupported claims and mismatched references.
-
Prompt structure. Send this brief once as one paragraph and again under “Goal,” “Constraints,” and “Output,” without changing the wording: “Propose a furniture layout for the attached floor plan. Preserve labeled doors, windows, structural walls, and dimensions. Explain circulation and list assumptions.” Record changes in omissions, contradictions, and unsupported assumptions.
-
Color and lighting. Upload a room photo, plan, and finish references. Ask: “Separate observations from recommendations, address daylight and artificial light, and explain how the finishes may behave under those conditions. Do not claim to measure color or light unless the input provides a measurement.” Record the evidence behind each recommendation and any unstated room condition.
-
Cost and material sourcing. Attach a room schedule and ask: “Create separate labor, material, fixture, and contingency lines. For every price, state currency, market, unit, quantity basis, date checked, and source. If an input is missing, ask for it instead of estimating. Separate modeled allowances from supplier quotes.” Check arithmetic, units, exclusions, location, dates, and source coverage. Record every figure you cannot verify and every missing input.
Which rows of the comparison matter
On the Claude vs ChatGPT vs Gemini comparison matrix, focus on the rows for plan and price, usage limits, app context window, supported file types and upload limits, image limits, storage, training on chats, web and source behavior, and project or workspace handling.
The matrix gives each vendor figure a source and read date. When a figure cannot be confirmed, it is marked “Not verified” and left blank. Chat Picker’s method includes no assistant quality tests, scores, survey data, or rankings. Confirm the current vendor page before subscribing because plans, features, and country pricing can change.
