If you are choosing the best AI chatbot, vendors’ pages settle some purchasing terms: plans, prices, features, limits, data controls, and published export, cancellation, or support rules. They do not show which assistant will handle your work best, and Chat Picker has not tested ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. No survey, review, ratings, benchmark, or user data supports this page; older unsourced statistics and test results were removed.

What the vendors document

  • ChatGPT: As read on October 1, 2026, OpenAI's ChatGPT pricing page says Free includes unlimited everyday text chat while tools have separate limits; Go is A$13 per month on the Australian page, with no verified US-dollar price; Plus is $20 per month. Read the same day, OpenAI's Pro tiers FAQ lists Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 at $100, $200, and $500 per month. OpenAI's Plus FAQ says API usage is separate and lists voice, image, file, and Deep Research features where available.

  • Claude: As read on October 3, 2026, Anthropic's Claude pricing page lists Free at $0, Pro at $20 monthly or $17 per month with annual billing, and Max from $100 monthly. Pro adds Claude Code, Design, Slides, Docs, projects, more models, and Microsoft 365 access; Max offers 5x or 20x Pro usage per five-hour session, but no numeric 20x price was shown.

  • Gemini: As read on October 1, 2026, Google's AI plans page lists Free at $0, Plus at $4.99, Pro at $19.99, and Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99. It pairs these with 15 GB on Free, 2x usage and 400 GB on Plus, 4x and 5 TB on Pro, and 5x or 20x Pro limits for Ultra; Plus and Pro list video generation and Daily Brief.

For teams, OpenAI's Business overview, read October 2, 2026, requires at least two seats. Standard costs $25 per seat per month, or $20 with annual billing; Premium costs $125 monthly, or $100 with annual billing. Claude's pricing page, read October 1, lists Team for 2 to 150 people at the same seat figures. No Google business price was verified on its AI plans page.

Context figures are not interchangeable. As read October 1, OpenAI's pricing page lists 27K tokens on Free, 54K on Go or Plus, and 128K on Pro for instant models; reasoning rows list 256K on Go or Plus and 400K on Pro. As read October 3, Claude's pricing page says up to 1M on every plan, varying by model. As read October 1, Google's limits help lists 32K without an AI plan, 128K on Plus, and 1M on Pro or Ultra.

Usage also differs across pages read October 1: OpenAI's pricing page publishes no exact message count; Claude's Pro FAQ says usage varies with message and file length and its session limit resets every five hours; Google's limits help says limits refresh every five hours until a weekly limit, depending on prompt complexity, features, and chat length.

As read October 1, OpenAI's data controls say Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users can opt out of model improvement; Business, Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare workspace content is not used for training by default. Temporary chats are excluded from model improvement but may be retained for 30 days for safety. Anthropic's privacy page, read the same day, says Claude chats and coding sessions may be used for improvement under the user's choice, while incognito chats are excluded and safety-flagged conversations may be used to improve safeguards. Google's personalization page, read October 1, says Gemini personalization can use past chats and connected app content; the AI plans page does not state a model-training setting, so Chat Picker leaves that cell unverified.

Accuracy notes do not support a ranking. As read October 1, OpenAI's guidance says answers can be incorrect or misleading even when confident; Claude's guidance says not to rely on it as the only source and to check citations; Google's source guidance explains the Sources button when available but makes no comparable accuracy claim on that page.

As read October 1, Claude's export page says individuals on Free, Pro, and Max can export from web or desktop; Team and Enterprise exports are limited to the Primary Owner, and links expire after 24 hours. OpenAI's cancellation page, read the same day, says cancellation follows the ChatGPT, Apple, or Google Play billing route. Cancellation stops renewal but does not automatically refund prior charges; OpenAI says to cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid the next period's charge. The Google pages read do not settle Gemini export or cancellation terms.

In pages read October 1, OpenAI's support page starts with a virtual assistant and may add a human; the OpenAI Developer Community is for API and developer-tool users, not ChatGPT app discussion. Claude's support page offers written messenger or email support, not phone, with response times varying by plan and issue. Google's source page says Google One members can get expert support; its Gemini Apps Community carries product posts and community guides.

What the documentation cannot tell you

Pricing and policy pages document terms, not whether an answer meets your standard, how a tool handles your files, or how a service behaves under your workload. They do not predict unlisted regional charges or taxes. A controlled trial records behavior on your device and account; it does not establish a universal ranking.

How to check it yourself

  1. Use one non-sensitive document you own. Give each assistant: “Summarize it in 12 bullets, cite a page after every claim, and label unsupported points.” Check omissions and citations; record the plan, option shown, date, answer, and corrections.

  2. Use a fictional sales CSV and matching receipt image. Ask: “Extract each item, calculate the total, show the arithmetic, and cite the supporting cells.” Compare the result with the files and record every mismatch.

  3. Upload the same licensed technical manual. Ask: “Find every section that changes the shutdown procedure, quote each instruction, and cite its section number.” Check retrieval across the file and record missing or conflicting passages.

  4. Ask: “Using only NASA pages, explain what the James Webb Space Telescope studies and provide one dated citation for each part.” Open every citation; record unsupported claims and each source date.

  5. Upload a fictional support policy and ask: “Classify these tickets—password reset, billing address change, account locked, slow export, and delete workspace—by urgency, quoting the policy sentence for each.” Record actual cap notices, lost context, and tool errors. Before paying, write down the export, cancellation, billing, and support terms shown for your account.

Which rows matter for the best AI chatbot

Start with the three-way comparison matrix. Focus on the rows for Free plan, low-cost tier, main paid plan, heavy-use plans, team plan, app context window, usage-limit description, training on chats, and ads. A blank marked “Not verified” is an evidence gap, not a zero. Prices are US dollars unless a cell says otherwise; confirm the vendor page before subscribing, and check export, cancellation, and support separately.
